BESS Weekly: storage clears a capacity auction as firm capacity

Base Power Company raised a $1 billion Series D at a $13 billion post-money valuation, up from $4 billion ten months ago, and launched Base Core, its own 39.2kWh home battery built in Austin, on the same day. The residential fleet has passed 500MWh across roughly 17,000 homes in Texas and Illinois.

Eolian started construction on Flint Grid, a 200MW/1.06GWh project in Licking County, Ohio. It is the first large-scale BESS to qualify for the PJM capacity market and the largest to clear the 2027/28 residual auction.

NextEra Energy added 2GW of storage to its backlog in Q2 and now guides 32GW to 43GW inside its 2026-2032 backlog, with domestic battery supply secured through 2029.
