BESS Weekly: hyperscalers start underwriting 100-hour storage

Form Energy and Xcel Energy announced a 30GWh/300MW iron-air battery project in Minnesota, the largest BESS ever announced by capacity.

Form Energy and Xcel Energy announced a 30GWh/300MW iron-air battery project in Minnesota supporting a Google data center, the largest BESS ever announced by capacity and the first at this scale using non-lithium chemistry. When hyperscalers start underwriting 100-hour storage, the conversation changes fast.

Jupiter Power is developing a 400MW/1,600MWh battery at a former ExxonMobil oil storage site in Everett, Massachusetts, set to become the largest BESS in New England.

SK On secured 284MW, just over half of South Korea's second government ESS tender, and is converting production lines to manufacture 3GWh of LFP cells for ESS.
