Market Signal: Michigan goes vertically integrated on storage

DTE signed a $1.6 billion, 6GWh BESS supply deal with LG Energy Solution Vertech across eight projects.

DTE Energy signed a $1.6 billion supply agreement with LG Energy Solution Vertech for 6GWh of battery energy storage across eight projects, 1.5GW of capacity delivered over two years, all meeting domestic content requirements with cells made in Holland, Michigan.

The signal Two months ago the Michigan Public Service Commission approved 1,332MW of BESS in a single decision, including 332MW for Oracle's data center. That was the demand side. This is the supply side. Michigan is becoming a vertically integrated BESS market.

Hiring The deal supports 1,800 jobs at LG's Holland plant and 350 construction and operations roles across the eight projects. Battery Cell Manufacturing Engineers, Grid Integration Specialists, and Commissioning Managers carry a two-year MISO delivery window.
