LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On are all converting EV cell capacity to North American grid storage.
LG Energy Solution is targeting over 50GWh of ESS capacity in North America by year-end, Samsung SDI is aiming for 30GWh, and SK On is chasing more than 20GWh of ESS orders this year, converting EV lines in Georgia and Tennessee.
The signal EV demand has slowed and FEOC rules are pushing buyers off Chinese cells, so retooling EV capacity is the fastest route to compliant supply. US cell manufacturing for grid storage has moved from announcement to active reallocation across all three at once.
Hiring This is talent reallocation, not market expansion. Battery Manufacturing Engineers are moving from nickel chemistries to LFP and Procurement Leaders from long-cycle automotive contracts to rapid-cycle cell sourcing under FEOC.
