Flatiron Energy has closed roughly $850 million in financing for Energizar, a 1,200 MWh standalone BESS in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the East Coast's largest urban BESS site, with commercial operation targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. Flatiron also won 400 MW / 1,600 MWh in Maryland's first bulk storage procurement at Chalk Point.
Maryland Public Service Commission awarded just 440 MW / 1,760 MWh against an 800 MW Round 1 target. Beyond Flatiron's Chalk Point award, the only other winner was REV Renewables' 40 MW / 160 MWh Jade Meadow III project on a reclaimed coal mine in Garrett County, with Round 2 opening by January 1, 2027.
REV Renewables also took the only PJM award in Illinois' Summer 2026 storage round, 80 MW in Calumet City against a 588 MW target. MISO was oversubscribed at 520 MW across Invenergy, Key Capture Energy, and RWE, bringing the combined total to 600 MW against a 1,038 MW goal.
