Ultium Cells will run three battery chemistries at Spring Hill by 2028, backed by a $1 billion investment and 500 new jobs.
Ultium Cells will invest $1 billion by 2030 at its Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, which has made LFP cells for grid storage since June and adds LMR cells for GM vehicles from 2028. The site expects 500 new jobs on a workforce of 1,200.
The signal Spring Hill will have added two chemistries in about three years, LFP for storage in June 2026 and LMR by 2028. A plant running several chemistries at once needs people who have run more than one.
Hiring The scarce profile is the cell engineer who has qualified more than one chemistry. Process Engineers, Quality Leads, and NPI Managers who can bring up LMR lines while LFP storage output keeps running will be in demand well before 2028.
