NYSERDA contracted 950MW of bulk storage across eight projects, with payments starting only at commercial operation and all eight due in service by 2030.
NYSERDA announced its first bulk energy storage awards on September 23: eight projects totaling 950MW, selected from 46 bids of about 6GW, with durations of four to eight hours and sites from the Bronx to Western New York. Payments begin at commercial operation.
The signal Revenue is now fixed by contract, so the schedule runs through permits, local approvals, and upgrade costs. In August a revised Con Edison cost methodology added an average of $21 million per project, and at least 25 New York projects have since been canceled.
Hiring Developers holding these awards need Development Managers who have taken New York projects through local approvals, Interconnection Leads who know NYISO upgrade studies, and Construction Leads who can build to the state's 2026 fire codes on dense urban sites.
